When this article was published in the Langley Advance touting the new Ford plant in Malaya, Singapore there was already fierce fighting taking place nearby. The plant, which opened in October 1941 assembled military vehicles that had been built in the Windsor Ford plant.
The new plant was also the scene where on 15 February 1942, British Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival walked into the Ford Factory boardroom and officially surrendered Singapore to the Japanese.
Japanese forces turned the plant into their regional HQ and Nissan used it to build their own military vehicles. The plant is now a museum operated by the National Archives of Singapore and contains many documents, maps and artifacts pertaining to Singapore's role in World War 2.
