Today we recognize the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

Some have asked what we, as a heritage society, are doing/have done in regards to Truth & Reconciliation. In 2018 the society repatriated the small number of items in its collection to Kwantlen First Nations and developed a Repatriation, Reconciliation And Cultural Property Policy, which can be found in the About section of our website.

As individuals and as a heritage society, we continue our learning path by researching, reading and listening to the stories of Indigenous People, Inuit and Métis, and familiarize ourselves with the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls To Action and UNDRIP to understand where and how we may be doing better.

***UPDATED: This photo was filed with the wrong set of aerials, it should have been in the 1960s Aerial Photos.***

Going back to our Aldergrove Star aerial photos, here is Clearbrook looking west along South Fraser Way towards Highway 1. I'm sure that Abbotsford Historic Sites and Buildings and Heritage Abbotsford / Trethewey House would be able to identify the businesses.

A photo from the "1995 Box 1" files, of the Aldergrove Legion supporting our local hockey players. If anyone can provide a name, it will be easier to search the Aldergrove Star archive to find the published photo and story to go with it. =)

Tariffs aren't just a modern issue - they were of concern to BC residents back in the late 1870s as well, whether they were "town folk" or "farming folk", with our community being populated mainly by the later type of folk.

Back in the day when buildings were moved and re-used or repurposed whenever possible. This house is still standing and is still someone's home...at least for now (and hopefully for many years yet).

During both World Wars many industries faced worker shortages. Farms were no different and many depended on the Farm Labour Service Committee, an off-shoot of the National Selective Service and National Registration, for help in getting the harvest done and keeping their essential service in operation.

This map has been updated by the government several times with this version printed in 1961. When they did the update, they didn't remove two locations that were no longer in use - the oval car racing track on 240th Street (green dot) and the North Star Drive In on 248th (blue dot). This is a very large map, and you may have to open it in a new tab or download the image to your device to see the details. It is important to note that this map only goes to west Aldergrove, I will post the eastern portion tomorrow.
