Where History Comes Home
Undated Aldergrove Hockey photo from the Aldergrove Star Collection. Like previous photos, it was found in a box labelled 1990-1991, which doesn't mean that all of the photos in the box were actually from those years. Chances are we can find it in the newspaper if the photo was published, but it helps (and saves time) if we can at least narrow down the year first. Thank you for your help in identifying years and people. =)

In amongst the sports photos in the Box 1-1990-1991-Box C was this Brownies/Girl Guide troop, possibly taken before or after the Christmas Parade? Does anyone recognize these young ladies or their leader?

HMCS Aldergrove expanded its land holdings in 1965, later putting the buildings on the expropriated land up for sale. There were a number of sales, only one advert is shown here, but there was another tender ad with a later deadline of June, and another ad one year later in 1967. It would be interesting to see the sales results and fate of the buildings that were sold. I imagine that those which didn't sell were demolished.

Today is the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Coghlan Women's Institute. Did you know that we have several boxes of Coghlan WI items in our archives? Women's Institutes were an integral part of the majority of Canadian communities, it's a shame that so many have ceased to exist.

We would like to thank the person from our community who decided that the front of our 114 year old building needed tagging. Would you like to come back and clean it up? Or perhaps cover the cost of the paint we're going to have to buy in order to remove your "artwork" because it doesn't just wash off?

After WW2 came the Cold War Era. Today's post looks at a small sample of 1950s Civil Defence news items and procedures as well as an evacuation map for the Greater Vancouver area, in which the Township wasn't yet included. This map is from the City of Vancouver Archives and is in the public domain.
