Over the years we have collected many family stories. Most were sent in for The Place Between Volumes 1 & 2, others were donated so that a record of the family was in our archives.

Many are basic stories with just a few facts (that may or may not be correct). Here is the story that was submitted for Book 1 by George Thrower of Jubilee community. We like to work on stores, adding more documented facts & possibly more pictures because as you can see, there are many holes in the Thrower story, which appears on pages 343-344 of Volume 1.

An important point to remember though is that this story was written back in the late 1990s or early 2000s, when it was much harder to conduct any type of research with so little information available online. Thus, many of the family stories were written from memory & sometimes myth, but we appreciate them all.

"Jubilee Community about 1918 THROWER, George Walter & Hilda (Eden) written by George Thrower for The Place Between V1.

George Walter Thrower (1876-1965 ) was born in London ON to English immigrants Charlie & Sarah (1929). Charlie is buried in Tacoma WA.

Walter and his mother Sarah left the homestead in Vanderhoof in June 1918. Walter purchased 45 acres of the Craig homestead at the corner of Satchell & McTavish Roads from Mrs. Craig for $1800. He began farming & soon started shipping milk.

Hilda Eden (1899-1941) was born in Sweden 1899 & came to Canada with her parents in 1904 to a homestead at Wetaskwin AB. In 1926 Hilda, accompanied by her young son Roland, came to keep house for the Throwers. She & Walter later married & together they had 5 children:

George, who operates the Jersey dairy farm that his father started.

Charlie, retired & lives with George.

Mary is married to Rod Stevens, they have 5 children & 2 grandchildren. They live in Vancouver.

Peter & his wife Joke operate a farm on Satchell Road. They have 2 children.

Ralph (Tim) married Carol Probert of Glen Valley. They live in Fort Langley & have two children, Keith & Cheryl.

Roland Williams, Hilda’s first son, served with the Calgary Highlanders 1940 -1945. He never married & retired to Penticton."
