Before there was Participaction there was Pro-Rec, and apparently the young ladies from Aldergrove, County Line and Coghlan were real contenders.

Another aerial view of the downtown core, this time just west of 271st Street. We can narrow down the time frame for both this and yesterday's photo to between 1979 and 1982.

During both World Wars many industries faced worker shortages. Farms were no different and many depended on the Farm Labour Service Committee, an off-shoot of the National Selective Service and National Registration, for help in getting the harvest done and keeping their essential service in operation.

Who else remembers the good old days of drop-in skating, special skate sessions and skating lessons at the old ice arena? What is your favourite memory from then?

A few of the events happening around town this weekend or in the coming weeks. Some require tickets and/or registration, so visit their sites to get that done. The Legion is closed for filming until Saturday night, but will be open Sunday morning for breakfast. Get out there and #makesomememories

This map has been updated by the government several times with this version printed in 1961. When they did the update, they didn't remove two locations that were no longer in use - the oval car racing track on 240th Street (green dot) and the North Star Drive In on 248th (blue dot). This is a very large map, and you may have to open it in a new tab or download the image to your device to see the details. It is important to note that this map only goes to west Aldergrove, I will post the eastern portion tomorrow.

Here's a "more modern" look at our local radio relay stations. Well...I thought it was more modern until I realized that 1994 was 31 years ago.....

Rapid bus transit along the Highway 1 corridor was something the locals figured out decades ago, but for reasons unknown at this time it was stopped, only to be introduced as a new thing in the 21st century.

Just because the roads around the downtown core are going to be mayhem today, here's a Jackman Road story and the reasons why the locals wanted an overpass at Highway 1.

1893 Properties in the Township that were put up for Mortgage Sale. Hopefully we have the land records in our files to show who owned the Aldergrove and North Coghlan properties at the time.

Here are the listings from the RT Williams 1889 directory, which like yesterday's directory, is missing people who should be in the directory but aren't. We could take this to mean that the compilers of information concentrated on more populated areas and didn't take into consideration those who settled on land farther from town centres, even if they lived along the main wagon road and had a post office.

Who lived here in 1887 - although in reality, it was probably 1886 as it took time to acquire, organize, typeset and publish directories. Directories such as these are important because they can serve as a resource if voter lists and tax rolls aren't available or for the years not covered by a census.

This photo precedes the news article by about a year, but now we know when one of the changes of ownership occurred and we also know that the Blue Bird Cafe was pink before it was white, and at another time it was also blue. It also shows that there's been a restaurant on that piece of property for well over 60 years.
