In May 1961 the old St. Dunstan's Church (271 Street just south of Fraser Highway) was host to the BC Women's Institute's Douglas District Conference. Ladies from all over the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast were in attendance. Lunch was provided in the United Church Hall, and the ladies also spent some of their time visiting the downtown commercial core.

The 1987 Shortreed Community Elementary School went to Edmonton to take on the Junior High teams and did rather well for themselves.

How many of you got to experience Camp Elphinstone over on the Sunshine Coast, or a different class camping adventure? How many of you still have photos of your class camping trips? I believe we might have some, but it will take a bit of searching to find them.

We're asking for help from our heritage hive - these Aldergrove Star photos are in a box dated "1990s", can you help us narrow down a year, confirm the school (we think it might be Shortreed) and possibly provide some names, so that we can search the Aldergrove Star papers for the story that goes with the photos. Thank you as always for your help. =)

Lots to do this weekend and in the coming weeks - be sure to check if registration or tickets are required. The Full Pull The Rolling Barrage fundraising dinner is almost (or is) sold out, so if you've been putting off getting a ticket, now is probably the time to try and get one.

An important first step in getting our '54 Aldergrove Volunteer Fire Department truck back on the road was new tires because the old tires were vulcanized & two were flat, one with a gaping hole because summer heat caused it to explode. That has now happened thanks to the generosity & support of Fountain Tire Aldergrove, Watts Tire Service & Repair, Township of Langley Firefighters, Dennis Quiring & QuiringTrucking & Gravel Sales. This would not have happened without all of you, and we are very grateful your support.
Next up is her yearly bath and then comes the mechanical, interior and exterior beauty work.

Not the greatest photo from the digitized microfilms of early Star editions, but congratulations are due the 1966 Owl Patrol on their winning bridge building skills.
If anyone in the photo wants a better copy of the photo, we haven't come across the original photo in our collection, but we do have the original newspaper at the museum.

Letter mail service during WW2 was sent by Airgraph, a 1941 innovation in letter delivery. Our own postmaster, George MacDonald was a veteran of WW1 who also served in WW2. He was stationed overseas, serving in the Army's postal service.

We haven't conducted a lot of research yet into Aldergrove's Loyal Orange Lodge, but we believe through stories we've read that the Orange Hall at this time was located at the eastern end of downtown, near where the Elks Hall stood. The Lodge later moved out to Otter Road.
