Thank you to all who came out & supported our Community Heritage Day, including the small band of AGHS volunteers - Scott, Brenda, Teresa & Andrew - you too are appreciated, but the day wasn't about us, it was about the legacy that the Langmann family gave our community.

Few people realize that when the Langmann family generously entrusted AGHS with decades of newspapers & photographs that they were gifting the archives with a living, breathing encyclopedia of our community's history.

That generosity didn't stop when they sold the paper to Black Press. Kurt continued on as editor of the paper, faithfully documenting events big & small for posterity. When Kurt retired, it was the end of an era for Aldergrove; we were losing a dedicated newspaperman who put his commitment to community first, quite often ahead of the needs of his family.

This dedication to journalism & community that Kurt carried on after his parents left the industry is why we were pleased to present Kurt with our first Community Legacy Award.

The Langmann family's generosity didn't end then, either. Kurt made a further gift to our museum in the way of microfilms of the first 30 years of the Aldergrove News/Aldergrove Star along with a microfilm reader. He also gave written permission to have the microfilms digitized & placed online. Rudy wanted the news to be freely available to all, so we worked with the Irving K Barber Learning Centre at UBC to ensure that the pre-Black Press editions of the Aldergrove Star would always be free to access online.

We were happy to see that so many of you enjoyed our special Aldergrove Star exhibit, and thank you Tom Zillich, Michele Brunoro, Franck Bucholtz & Alison Blackhall Adamson for your heartfelt written tributes to Kurt & the Langmann family. Incidentally Tom & Michele - I found your very first articles for the Star, along with mine (written 51 years ago 😳!) Thank you to Sylvia & Natalie for extra information & for getting Kurt to the museum on time while keeping the award secret.

Congratulations also to "Live @ 265" for winning both the Judge's & People's Choice Chili Cook Off trophies!
