As promised last Tuesday, here is the other half of the "inside the Base" photos we found in the Aldergrove Star collection donated by the Langmann family.

There has been a lot of discussion as to whether or not the 6 photos in the set posted last week and today are Aldergrove / Matsqui, or different bases entirely. Some said no, some said definitely yes, and maybe someone will recognize the men in the photos and provide some names. =)

Either way, these photos are pretty cool - such big machines that are now probably a lot more compact and look a whole different.

A friend of our page is hoping that someone out there might be able to assist in putting names to faces. This photo was taken at Glen Valley School between 1914 and 1918. The children she is hoping to identify belonged to Hezekiah and Catherine Tingle: James, George, Jessie, Shirley, Catherine, Georgina, Rhoda and Clarissa (not in birth order).

Forget the pumpkin spice, here are some great apple recipes from Hallowe'en 1940, 16 months before rationing became the wartime norm. Who doesn't love a good taffy apple? The recipe editor is assuming that those reading these recipes know how to make pastry for turnovers as it only tells you how to make the filling. Rationing in Canada was just over one year away.

The long-gone Aldergrove Revitilization Committee got lots of things done in our downtown core, perhaps the most important of which was the undergrounding of services along Fraser Highway. Even though it created a big, big mess along the way, the end result was wonderful.

#WhatWasThere - Before Lordco, before Ferguson's Meats, there was the Aldergrove Co-op Cold Storage. Aldergrove Co-op was separate from Otter Co-op and operated until 1953, when William Ferguson and his son Jim purchased the building.

We thought we had an HMCS/CFB Aldergrove treasure has been found in the Aldergrove Star collection that was donated to our #communityarchives by the Langmann family.

Today we recognize the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

Some have asked what we, as a heritage society, are doing/have done in regards to Truth & Reconciliation. In 2018 the society repatriated the small number of items in its collection to Kwantlen First Nations and developed a Repatriation, Reconciliation And Cultural Property Policy, which can be found in the About section of our website.

As individuals and as a heritage society, we continue our learning path by researching, reading and listening to the stories of Indigenous People, Inuit and Métis, and familiarize ourselves with the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls To Action and UNDRIP to understand where and how we may be doing better.
