With every federal and provincial election, there is talk of ridings and representation. The City of Vancouver Archives have this May 1944 map of BC's federal ridings at the time.

I came across this news article about an Upper Fraser Valley map in the Chilliwack Progress, and found the map available as a free PDF download from Library-Archives Canada. I wish the map included our section of the valley, but the information shown is still very useful in our studies. If you want a copy of the map, the download is available through this link:

While this photo was from the start of the 1974 school year, we're posting it today as students enter their final month of school for the 2024-25 year to remind drivers to please use caution when driving near our schools and watch out for youngsters, teens and parents.

In amongst our Aldergrove Star Collection that was donated by the Langmann family, are several proof sheets that give us a glimpse into which shots were chosen for the weekly newspaper. These photos were taken for the 6 September 1990 edition. In an age when photos are rarely printed on paper and when film negatives are just as rare, it will be a bit of a challenge for the archives of the future to be able to keep a photographic record of these modern times.

The Aldergrove News depended on neighbourhood correspondents to get community news to the editors each week. Some of these ladies carried out the task for several years. It is thanks to these ladies and those who followed that we are able to find so many historical news nuggets from #ourcommunity.

Welcome back to school - it's the Betty Gilbert Class of 2003-4 Talent Show. The video was only 30 minutes in length and seems to jump a bit, so we're pretty sure it's not the entire show but we hope you enjoy it anyway. =)

We've talked about the old County Line Store before, but had not posted this story from the Langley Advance. While it wasn't on Grosvenor-Laing property, the empty store was one more building in the area that went up in flames.
Our second story today, which we missed in our 1962 Grosvenor-Laing recap, is somewhat more tragic as it resulted in the loss of 14 dogs. The house, which was a Grosvenor-Laing rental, was home to the Anson family. Except for the dogs, no humans were home when the fire started. Mr. Anson was the Editor and Advertising Manager for the Aldergrove News for a number of years.

There's no council meeting to keep many of us occupied today, so let's look back at 1963 to see what the region's planners and politicians were cooking up in the way of development and land use. What are your thoughts on this report vs where the Township is today?

1962 for the Grosvenor-Laing project in north Aldergrove started with another fire and a flooding issue, followed by a bumper berry crop, followed by more fires. By the end of the year, some were pondering the proliferation of fires - even though the January fire did appear to be an accident.
