Almost 29 years ago was the official grand opening of Kinsmen Heritage Park with an operational bandshell. Wouldn't it be nice to see this park once again become a destination for community events?

April 14th is #NationalGardeningDay so we're going to take a look at 'gardening' along Bertrand Creek and recognize the hard work done by the Bertrand Creek Enhancement Society - BCES and other volunteers in trying to both improve, protect and maintain a healthy waterway through town.

Today we hope that you will join us in remembering Jackman Manor resident George Ives, who passed away on 12 April 1993 at the age of 111. Not only was he the last surviving Boer War veteran, he was probably the oldest person to have ever lived in our community.
George lived a life of adventure and good humour, met HRH Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Diana Princess of Wales and Lady Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. George was well travelled, and we can only imagine the experiences he enjoyed through the years.
George came to Canada in 1903 (on the flip of a coin) as part of the Barr Colonists group, married Kate Nelson in Alberta in 1910, and they remained married until her passing in 1987. They had a family of 6 children, 3 of whom survived George. Their youngest son Alfred died tragically in …

The Aldergrove community was always sad to see long time residents move away, but they were always sent off in style - even if they were only moving across the river and would be back frequently to visit family and friends.

Something that has always made Aldergrove a great community - when someone needed help, others were always ready to step up and help in any way they could. George Road is now 28 Avenue, and the Chatron family lived at number 26128.

In the past months, a few of you have mentioned a second shoe store in Aldergrove in the early 1960s but couldn't remember the store name. Is Frank's Shoe Store the one you were thinking of? The store didn't appear to last very long, opening in August but apparently gone by December as the last advert I could find was in the Aldergrove News for 29 November 1961. The store was located at the east end of the downtown core in the Williams Block, beside Art's Pastry.

Aldergrove's Royal Purple ladies knew how to get things done - and your #communitymuseum received the honour of becoming the custodian of Royal Purple Lodge 38's records when it ceased operation, so if you had a female ancestor who was a member of this lodge, we have records that you might want to look through when we are done processing, organizing, preserving and scanning them. =)

On the 2nd of April 1912, the Aldergrove Agricultural Association became an official entity. To commemorate this date, we recognize that without the AAA, Aldergrove wouldn't have what is now Philip Jackman Park, and many do not know that Aldergrove's Centennial Committee tried to have some park improvements added as the town's Centennial Project.
