Two new Aldergrove businesses opened in March 1970, so if you were curious as to which came first, Brian Findlay's car wash or his sports shop, the answer is the car wash. See tomorrow's story for the opening of the Aldergrove Sports Centre. More importantly, the photo of the car wash shows the little house that stood just to the west of the Rose Garden Motel. The Aldergrove Paint Supplies store sat on Fraser Highway on the lot to the east of the Stoelting's building, where the online auction place is now (formerly the site of Steve's Lighting).

Did you know that we have a fair number of wedding and anniversary photos and clippings, and we're slowly matching them up with the news articles, like the one in today's post. One Star photos folder has about 50 photos from the late 1960s - early 1970s, mostly unidentified. The clippings folders have many, many engagement, wedding, anniversary and even divorce announcements. We also have obituaries. The clippings folders include clippings from other newspapers as well, not just the Aldergrove Star.

Here are a few bits of local news, including a report about the wedding of Nan Gillett, who ran a confectionary store and was Aldergrove's first telephone operator/service agent. We knew when she got married, and to whom - we've actually found some of her descendants who provided us with photos seen in other posts on this page - but it's nice to have a bit of commentary about the event. There's also a local man mentioned who volunteered for WW1, we're still trying to learn more about him in our ongoing veterans research project.
